Our history

Welcome to the Zonta Club of Sarasota!  We are part of an international organization of about 30,000 women throughout the world.  Our mission is to build a better world for women and girls.  The Sarasota club was formed in 1985 by 45 women from diverse professional occupations.  Our largest project to date was raising $25,000 for the Y.M.C.A. Zonta Zoo Room for the Preschool Childcare program.

In addition to fund raising we have collected evening gowns for Fairy Godmother who distribute the dresses to girls lacking the funds to purchase one for her prom, and collecting T-shirts for Rethreaded which is a nonprofit program that enables women to recover from human trafficking.  The girls are helped to obtain their G.E.D. and qualify for college scholarships.

Over the years our club has amassed over $100,000 at the Community Foundation.  Each year our members determine which local charities will receive the annual earnings from our fund.  Girls Inc., SPARCC, Women’s Resource Center, Mothers Helping Mothers, and Second Chance Last Opportunity are some of the organizations we have supported.  We would love to have you join us and help fulfill our mission.
